Karl Wiebke 2020

KARL WIEBKE
Seven Paintings
12 November - 5 December 2020

Karl Wiebke paints daily, every day he takes the time, and patience to explore his chosen medium. Dedication is not something that he lacks, he is devoted to his medium and it is evident in his work. His work reflects the notion of paint for itself, as an object not a carrier of meaning or symbolism. He constantly pushes the boundaries and definition of painting both as a noun and verb - the object and the action. Wiebke paints daily, a mechanical like process which requires a meticulous and rigorous system. But his work never borders on the mundane, it comes alive through his rigid process, the paint swirls, moves and wriggles its way through bringing an astounding complexity to his work. His work is a true reflection of his constant inquiry of the nature of painting itself. Whilst his work may in essence be devoid of meaning, his wide stretching canvasses allow a viewer to embed their own meaning and emotion to the works.

Liverpool Street Gallery is proud to announce Seven Paintings by Karl Wiebke. In his new series the paint squirms, buries and jumps off the canvas. It pulls in the viewer to contemplate its many layers, the artist’s hand and the movement of gravity impacting the paint itself. It also sits as a bold object, imposing its beauty onto the viewer. His new series is bold, evocative and perhaps his most grand statement yet.
