Liverpool Street Gallery is delighted to present Gulley Jimson and the Heat Death of the Universe, a collection of energetic and divergent works by the revered artist Dick Watkins.

Gulley Jimson, the protagonist from Joyce Cary’s The Horses Mouth (1944) , is an artist who rejects the conventional and predictable in his art practice. The Heat Death of the Universe is a proposed end to the universe which suggests the universe will no longer have enough heat to sustain life. Watkins has brought two of his disparate interests together in this new body of abstract and figurative paintings. This work can be read through the tension of the artist’s desire to make master works and the acknowledgement that everything must have its end; life, art and even the universe itself.
