Mnemon

Mnemon

Mnemon (a unit of memory) is an exhibition that draws on the elusive nature of memory, and landscape. The large, panoramic, oil paintings that capture a range of diverse landscapes, surround the viewer and draw them in to a space of reflection. These expansive landscapes have no immediate location; rather they create an imagery that enables the recollection of memory, drawing out a previous experience from within the viewer.

Drawing inspiration directly from the landscape, the paintings are driven by process, and creation. Working with photographs and footage shot on locations across the world, the images are homogenised through the repetition of composition and format. Whilst the technique of blurring contributes to ephemeral nature of the works, the addition of minor, nonspecific human elements allows the viewer to familiarise with, and connect directly to, the scene.
